Anatomy of an Insight

Eight moves that separate strategic research from competent observation — with contrasts and drills.

The gap between average research and genuinely strategic research is not a methods gap. The methods are learnable. What is hard to teach is the quality of attention that generates surprising insights rather than confirmatory ones — the discipline of staying with raw material long enough to find what it reveals rather than what it confirms.

Each lesson below pairs the move with a before/after on the same raw material, then a drill. The contrast is where the learning is. Most research education shows you good examples in isolation. Seeing the same material handled two ways forces you to locate the exact moment where the thinking diverges.
